Assemblyman Mike Bragman secured grant
funding, through the Oneida Lake Environment
and Tourism Initiative Program, for three informational
pamphlets.
ONEIDA
LAKE PAMPHLETS PUBLISHED:
The publications were
prepared by the Cornell University Field
Station Staff, by noted wildlife artist
Robert McNamara, and by the Oneida Lake
Association's Bulletin Committee.
A large format pamphlet, Aquatic
Plants and Oneida Lake, describes
the lake's current and past plant "communities" (types
of plants).
Plants' role in the lake's
ecosystem, the factors contributing
to plant growth, plant management,
and techniques for disposing
of plant debris are other topics
addressed in this brochure.
Maps,
historical photos, and a detailed
plant identification chart provide
highlights.
This pamphlet is
a very detailed work and is a "must
read" for those interested in Oneida
Lake's biology.
One of the smaller pamphlets, Oneida
Lake's Aquatic Plants--Weeds To Some
... Habitat To Others, capsulizes
the data contained in the large format
pamphlet.
The
other small brochure, Oneida
Lake Users' Guide, contains
regulations and courtesy guidelines
for boaters, jet skiers, and snowmobilers.
The pamphlet itemizes some
New York State laws that apply
to lake users and, in addition,
contains data about public access
sites and emergency phone numbers.
All three pamphlets are available at Brewerton
Sports and other lake area businesses. The
OLA wishes to thank Assemblyman Bragman for
his continued support for the enhancement and
preservation of the Oneida Lake experience.
